Student Resource Scheme - 2026
As we begin planning for the 2026 school year, you will soon receive an email and paper form outlining our Student Resource Scheme (SRS) for next year. This scheme is designed to provide families with a cost-effective and convenient way to ensure every student has access to the essential resources they need for successful learning.
By opting in to the SRS, families benefit from:
- Significant savings compared to purchasing items independently
- Quality resources selected by teachers to support the curriculum
- Convenience, with everything organised and distributed by the school
- Equity, ensuring all students have the same materials, supporting a strong start for learning
We kindly request that all SRS participation forms are returned by Friday 12 December 2025, to assist us with accurate ordering and budgeting for the year ahead.
Please note that payment is not required until later in Term 1, 2026. Further details regarding cost and payment timelines will be included in the upcoming email.
Don't forget:
If you have any special circumstances or wish to provide information that we should consider when making decisions about class placements, please email Mrs Tamara Walsh at twall167@eq.edu.au no later than Friday 31 October 2025. Please note that any requests received in the past are not considered in future years and you must submit a new request each year.
Share Your Ideas with Us!
We value the voices of our parents, carers, and community. To make it easier for you to share feedback, suggestions, or ideas, we’ve launched an online suggestion box. This is a simple and convenient way for you to contribute your thoughts at any time. Whether it’s an idea to support learning, a way to strengthen our community, or feedback to help us improve, we’d love to hear from you.
Together, we can continue to make Eight Mile Plains State School the best place for our students to learn, grow, and thrive.

Mental Health Week
This week our students and staff have been exploring the important theme of mental health and wellbeing. Across the week, classes engaged in discussions and activities aligned to Bullying No Way!, Mindfulness, and Day for Daniel – Personal Safety. Together, we built our understanding, skills and awareness around how we can take care of ourselves, support others, and contribute to a kind and safe community.
Throughout these activities, students were encouraged to reflect, relax and develop greater emotional awareness — recognising how our thoughts and feelings influence our actions and relationships.
On Thursday, students and staff participated in a mindfulness workshop led by our wonderful Guidance Officer, Mrs Catherine Atkin. Using a mindfulness glitter jar as an analogy for the brain, students explored what happens when we experience big emotions, and how we can use calming strategies to help our brains “settle” and refocus.
A sincere thank you to Astnd Property, Eight Mile Plains, for generously sponsoring and supporting the Be Kind, Be Brave, Be You initiative with the Mindfulness Glitter Jars. Programs like this are only possible through the wonderful support of our local community and businesses.

Special thanks also to Ella and her team of volunteers from Be Kind, Be Brave, Be You for organising and providing the materials for the glitter jars, and for supporting students on the day. Every student was able to make and take home a glitter jar as a tool and reminder of the power of mindfulness and brain regulation.

Transition to High School
For our Year 6 students, the move to high school is now just around the corner. This exciting milestone can bring a mix of anticipation, fear, and anxiety as students prepare for new routines, teachers, and friendships.
To help support your child through this important transition, Education Queensland has shared some valuable hints and tips for parents:
- Talk positively about high school and highlight the exciting opportunities ahead.
- Visit the new school together where possible, and discuss what to expect.
- Encourage organisation by practising routines such as packing bags, using timetables, and managing homework.
- Listen and reassure your child about any worries they may have — remind them that it’s normal to feel nervous about change.
- Stay connected with the school and teachers during the early weeks to support a smooth adjustment.
With encouragement, reassurance, and a little preparation, this next chapter can be a confident and successful start to high school life.

Congratulations Oscar!

Congratulations to our school captain Oscar and his team for winning the recent Under 12 - Four Hand Reel at the Australian Irish Dancing Championships!
A four hand reel is a traditional Irish folk dance that involves four people. The dance consists of alternating traveling figures with stationary steps or "setting" steps.
Day for Daniel - Friday 31st October 2025

Eight Mile Plains State School is supporting Day for Daniel
Day for Daniel is Australia’s largest day of action to raise awareness of child safety, protection, and harm prevention. Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe.
Parents, carers, and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety. On Friday 31st October 2025, Eight Mile Plains staff are invited and encouraged to wear something red to match our students who are already wearing a red uniform and to raise awareness of child safety issues. Years 3 - 6 will be attending a Day for Daniel assembly at 9am to listen to two school liaison police officers from the Mount Gravatt Police Station talk about keeping safe in real life and online.
In addition to this, Eight Mile Plains State School will be conducting child safety education activities which have been developed by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. The ‘Keeping Kids Safe’ resources support students to ‘Recognise, React and Report’ when they feel unsafe. Developing an understanding of respectful relationships is also a key learning area within the resource.
Why do we wear red?
People are encouraged to wear red on Day for Daniel in remembrance of Daniel Morcombe. Daniel was wearing a red t-shirt on 7th December 2003 when he found himself in an unsafe situation. Wearing red links Daniel’s very real story to the importance of safety education. It provides a message of strength and hope that together we can make the world safer for all children as a legacy to Daniel and his family.
For further information or to view some of the activities and videos, please visit the Daniel Morcombe Foundation Website: https://danielmorcombe.com.au/day-for-daniel/
