Wrapping Up Term 3
As Term 3 draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on what has been a busy, exciting, and rewarding term at Eight Mile Plains State School. Our students, staff, and families have once again shown great energy and commitment to learning, community, and fun.
Year 5 & 6 Camp
One of the standout highlights was the Year 5 and 6 camp to Warrawee. Students challenged themselves with outdoor activities, strengthened friendships, and built resilience in a supportive environment. It was wonderful to see so many students stepping out of their comfort zones and embracing new experiences.
Parent Teacher Interviews
We also thank families for the strong turnout at our Parent Teacher Interviews. These important conversations help build strong partnerships between home and school, and we greatly value the shared commitment to each child’s success.
Science Week & ICAS Testing
This term we celebrated Science Week with hands-on investigations that sparked curiosity and critical thinking across all year levels. In addition, many of our students participated in ICAS testing, representing our school proudly as they extended their learning and put their skills to the test.
Book Week
Book Week was another highlight, filled with colour, imagination, and celebration of the joy of reading. Our parade was a true showcase of creativity, with students and staff dressing up as their favourite book characters.
Brisbane Brekky Radio Visit
We were also fortunate to host the Brisbane Brekky radio show at our school this term. It was a fantastic community event that not only brought excitement to our school but also raised valuable funds to support our school chaplaincy program. Thank you to everyone who came along, joined in, and supported this great cause.
Looking Ahead
Term 3 has been a testament to the strength of our school community. We thank all students, staff, and families for their contributions and support. We look forward to another term of learning, growth, and connection as we head into Term 4.
Share Your Ideas with Us!
We value the voices of our parents, carers, and community. To make it easier for you to share feedback, suggestions, or ideas, we’ve launched an online suggestion box. This is a simple and convenient way for you to contribute your thoughts at any time. Whether it’s an idea to support learning, a way to strengthen our community, or feedback to help us improve, we’d love to hear from you.
Together, we can continue to make Eight Mile Plains State School the best place for our students to learn, grow, and thrive.

End of Term
As Term 3 draws to a close, I would like to thank our families for their ongoing support and the wonderful partnership we share in helping every child to succeed. This term has been filled with many highlights, achievements and moments of growth, both in and out of the classroom, and it has been a joy to celebrate these with our students.
We wish all families a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, 7 October for another exciting term of learning and opportunities.
Lost Property
Please ensure that all items belonging to your child are clearly labelled with their name. When items are labelled, we are able to return them quickly, saving both time and the cost of replacing lost belongings.
Un-labelled items are placed in the lost property area at the office.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge has now finished for the year, and we are so proud of our students who have worked hard to complete their reading goals. A total of 56 students submitted their entry forms, reading an incredible 989 books! We look forward to acknowledging and celebrating these achievements during the Premier’s Reading Challenge Celebration Weeks (3–14 November 2025).
Reading is the gateway to imagination, knowledge and lifelong learning. Thank you to our families for encouraging and supporting a love of reading at home—your support makes a real difference.

Excursions and Incursions
At our school, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom context and traditional lessons. Excursions and incursions offer students invaluable opportunities to engage in connected, real-life experiences that deepen their understanding and bring their learning to life.
This year, our school has offered opportunities for students to participate and engage in a range of excursions and incursions linked to the focus concepts being taught within the classroom. They have provided rich opportunities for students to make connections with their learning in real-world contexts.
Both excursions and incursions promote active learning, critical thinking and social skills. We encourage all students to participate in these enriching opportunities as they occur throughout the year.
