Celebrating a Wonderful Semester at Eight Mile Plains State School
As we wrap up what has been a vibrant and successful semester at Eight Mile Plains State School, we want to take a moment to celebrate the many achievements, events, and opportunities that have made Term 1 and 2 so memorable.
This semester, our students demonstrated commitment and resilience at our annual Cross Country Carnival, cheered on by families and peers as they gave their best. We also came together as a school community for a respectful and moving ANZAC Day parade, honouring those who have served and sacrificed for our country.
Our GATEways participants showcased their talents and passion for learning, engaging in challenging extension activities across a range of disciplines. Students across year levels also enjoyed the excitement and teamwork of our GALA Sports Days, building school spirit and developing their skills in a range of sports. Another standout moment was National Simultaneous Storytime, where our whole school joined thousands of others across Australia to enjoy a story together — a powerful celebration of literacy and the joy of reading.
We are incredibly proud of the positive attitude, effort, and kindness shown by our students this semester. Thank you to our dedicated staff and supportive families who help make our school such a wonderful place to learn and grow.
As the holidays approach, we encourage families to enjoy this special time together. Whether it’s visiting a local library, exploring nature trails, cooking together, or enjoying board games and craft activities at home, the break is a great time to relax and reconnect.
If you’re looking for care options during the break, don’t forget to check out Helping Hands, our on-site vacation care provider, offering a variety of fun and engaging activities for children over the holidays.
Wishing all our families a safe, happy, and restful school holiday period. We look forward to seeing everyone back for another exciting term ahead!

3B Mini Scientists
On Tuesday 24th of June, 3B students participated in the Signature Street Science Show and Hardcore Heat Workshop. Students were presented with a range of fire and liquid nitrogen-based demonstrations to explore how heat can be produced, transferred between objects and have a dramatic observable effects on materials around them.
During the workshop, we completed chemical reactions to feel and measure, using thermometers, discussed how heat can be produced and absorbed and then tested different materials’ ability to conduct thermal energy and allow state changes. When we got back to the classroom, students completed a worksheet to discuss the results from the workshop. What a "Sciency" day! (New word we invented.)
Can you see any future chemists, biologists, astronomers or physicists in action in our photos?

Congratulations to the students in 5B for making it to the end of Term 2!
We managed to get all assessments complete by the end of week 9, leaving us some time to celebrate how fantastic we are during week 10. I am proud of the progress the students have made and hope they all enjoy a well-deserved rest over the holidays.
For the families of students attending camp next term, important information has gone home with your child today, so please check those school bags! It is vital that all information is read and understood by parents before camp.
Finally, a big congratulations to our sporty students who had a blast at the Athletics Carnival on Wednesday. It was encouraging to see our students cheer each other on and very exciting to see so many ribbons in our classroom! Thank you, Mr Minchin!
I hope you all have a fantastic holiday and come back to school ready to learn and grow.
Love Ms Sipos
